A musty, earthy smell is one of the most common reasons people call us. Often there is nothing visible. That does not mean nothing is there. Mold gives off odors as it grows, and the smell frequently shows up before any stain does.

Mold usually starts where moisture collects and nobody looks: inside wall cavities, under flooring, behind cabinets, and inside air handlers. The odor travels through gaps, outlets, and ductwork, so the room where you notice it is not always the room where the problem is.
