Swab and tape lift sampling that helps determine whether fungal growth is present on a specific stain, spot, or material.
How surface sampling works
The inspector collects a tape lift or swab directly from the suspect area and sends it to an accredited laboratory. The laboratory reports whether fungal structures are present and the types identified, according to its analytical method.
When surface sampling makes sense
- You see a stain or discoloration and want to know if it is mold.
- You need to document growth on a specific material before repairs.
- A remediation contractor needs to know what they are dealing with.
Surface and air sampling together
A surface sample provides information about one spot. Air samples provide information about airborne spores at the time of sampling. The inspector recommends one, both, or neither based on the conditions observed.
